Compulsion

command and bend the will of others

A Fundamental — a Field of Magical Knowledge whose applications reach 10m and last 10min; the usual props are a whip, a seal, or a baton. Learn it Basic (1 yr) for the easy end, Advanced (3 yr) for the deep.

Charm

Intensity
1
Code
§6B1
Source
compulsion

Cause a character's demeanour to improve or worsen one row (eg. from neutral to friendly, or vice versa) at the invoker's option (fixed, bestowed).

Glamour

Intensity
1
Code
§6B2
Source
compulsion

Cause a character to be willing to do a favour (as per the interaction rules) for one person of the invoker's choice (fixed, bestowed).

Entreat

Intensity
1
Code
§6B3
Source
compulsion

Render a target unable to (voluntarily) perform hostile acts against the invoker, and/or any subjects he/she designates (bestowed).

Sleep

Intensity
2
Code
§6A4
Source
compulsion

Cause a target (who/which must normally sleep at some time) to fall asleep, for an hour or until awoken (immediate, fixed, bestowed).

Proscription

Intensity
2
Code
§6A5
Source
compulsion

Render a target unable to (voluntarily) perform a specific act — eg. use a particular weapon, enter a particular room, say a particular word, attack a particular person (bestowed, duration 1h).

Motor Control

Intensity
3
Code
§6A6
Source
compulsion

Allow the invoker to control a character's motor functions (ie. his/her movement, but not his/her thoughts; controlled).

Note that release of control causes the target to become rigid in the position last assumed until the application's duration elapses (how sad).

Greater Proscription

Intensity
3
Code
§6A7
Source
compulsion

Render a target unable to (voluntarily) perform a set of related activities — eg. travel north, eat vegetables, leave the plane, wield a sword (bestowed, duration 1 day).

Oath

Intensity
4
Code
§6A10
Source
compulsion

Enforce a contract to which all the targets (who must be within range; this may include the invoker) have agreed.

If anyone involved in the contract is out of range or resists, no-one is affected. Otherwise, if any one of those involved knowingly acts against the letter of the contract, then he/she is affected as per Geas (§6A9), above.

Silvertongue

Intensity
4
Code
§6A8
Source
compulsion

Force one character to believe everything the invoker tells him/her, no matter how outrageous, and act upon those beliefs. If told contradictory things, the affected character will either go insane (think like HAL), or catatonic, until the effect wears off — and the character may make rational judgements on what he/she was told, probably unjustly biased by circumstances (fixed, bestowed).

Geas

Intensity
4
Code
§6A9
Source
compulsion

Geas the recipient to perform a task according to a 25- (or fewer) word instruction to which he/she has verbally agreed.

Once laid, the geas will cause the recipient pain if he/she knowingly acts against the letter of it: the recipient must make a PR roll once per hour for the first day (cumulative) of such action, once per five minutes for the second day, and once per pulse thereafter. Failure stuns the recipient normally; a QR10 increases his/her damage level by one.

(Duration infinite, controlled or fixed, bestowed.) !!!

Bind Will

Intensity
5
Code
§6A11
Source
compulsion

Bind the will of a target to that of the invoker, so that he/she does the invoker's bidding (but is otherwise free to do as he/she pleases).

If faced with a highly traumatic situation, forced to do something abhorrent, or alien to its nature, the target may make a resistance roll:

  • QR1 — the binding is broken.
  • QR2 — he/she may ignore the instructions which led to the roll (and receives a +1 modifier to subsequent rolls).
  • QR3 — he/she hesitates (for one pulse) before continuing.
  • otherwise the roll has no effect.

(Duration infinite, fixed, bestowed.) !!!
